Pal's FreeformEvery garden has its weeds. The Digital World has one by the name of Pal. The name is intentionally misleading; Pal is a sly devil, a poison ivy that'll sooner sell his entire family than do anything selfless or heroic. If he even had a family that loved him, that is. Pal's been alone from the start. His natural weakness and fragility made him paranoid and, eventually, selfish - which only hindered his ability to get close to people. Who needs them, though?! Other Digimon are just loud and obnoxious, and they always take up too much space! Fun to play with, though. And play with them he does, in his own, twisted way. Pal gets a kick out of messing with just about anybody: big, small, strong, weak. You'll find no mercy or compassion in him!
That isn't to say that the rotten Palmon has no interests other than manipulating for the sake of it, though. There is one goal that he pursues, albeit with little urgency; his ultimate desire is the simple progression of his own evolution. Put simply, he wants to be the strongest he can be. Over time, cowardice and hesitation have clouded this ambition, but the drive to grow remains. A few things kickstarted this little dream of his; when he was flung out of his home world and tossed into the dull, boring human place, for example. It was an entirely random occurence, but when he returned to the Digital World and discovered his own increase in stamina compared to his kin, he became interested in just how far he could push his boundries. Mostly, though, his desire to evolve stems from the only friend Pal will ever allow himself to have.
Did I say he was always alone? Maybe that was the wrong way to word it. Ever since Corren, he's always been alone.
The story here is simple: Corren was a Leomon, about as compassionate and honorable as they come. pal's complete antithesis, right? So you'd think, but that particular Leomon also saw himself as a guide - a teacher, if you will. Pal was someone that desperately needed to be educated, so Corren stuck close to him. And maybe Pal only kept him around for his power at first. It's impossible to deny that he appreciated it, but that isn't important. What's important is that the pair became friends. Close friends, something that Pal hasn't experienced since.
And that's it. That's the reason Pal wants to get stronger; he simply admired Corren's power. And ever since that stupid animal disappeared, he hasn't allowed himself to make friends. It's troublesome, really. From his experience, friends get in the way a lot. It's much easier to just be rotten to the core! And that's exactly what Pal is: rotten. Rotten and irredeemable - in love with no one but himself. Just the way he likes it.
