Alice Galen's FreeformBorn on a cold, dark day in the middle of the arctic winter, Alice wouldn't see the sun until she was several months old. This pattern of bright, 24/7 days in the summer and frigid, 24/7 nights in the winter patterned the first five years of her life in Kugluktuk with her parents, her father a primary school teacher and her mother a marine biologist, and her older brother. However, shortly before she was due to start school, her Father was diagnosed with liver cancer, and their family relocated south to Vancouver in order to be closer to the best medical services they could afford for his treatment.
Her father pulled through after three years of medical procedures, and the family elected to stay on the BC coast, having come to love the milder temperatures and lush scenery. They moved to the island, to nanaimo, and settled in to start a new life, her father now free of the disease trying to kill him and the rest of them free of the constant anxiety that comes with watching one of your loved ones fight for their life.
Alice had always found herself entranced by the natural world, and now with her father cured she finally had a chance to truly entrench herself in learning about and exploring her new surroundings. She leapt on any school or community program that gave her a chance to get out and explore safely, and she had begged her mother repeatedly to take her on research trips in the summers when she had time off.
Her brother spent much of his time with her as well, the two of them nigh-inseparable at times. Her big brother, Nicholas, only every spurred her onwards to further fascination with the world around them, hoping to help her see the same amount of wonder and beauty that he himself saw.
Alice's upbringing was a good one, full of love and light and encouragement. But then she turned 13, and her brother was hit by a truck on her birthday. He survived, but suffered a spinal injury that rendered it impossible for him to walk unaided. However his physical body did not suffer the most severe injury, his spirit did. Nicholas felt as though the world had suddenly become closed to him, and his joy and delight with the world dimmed and faded, and so too did the close bond he had had with Alice. She did her best to keep his spirit up and maintain the loving bond they'd had, but as he grew more bitter and withdrawn he pushed her away.
Devastated by what had happened, Alice felt lost and without hope, and she too began to withdraw into herself. In an effort to try and help her children, their mother began working to make it possible to bring them along on the research ship she would be on for most of the summer. Their mother felt that she could show her son that his injury did not have to mean the end to his desire to do fieldwork himself in the future, and that a trip like this might be just what was needed to rekindle the bond that had brought so much joy to both of her children.
Alice went missing three days before they were slated to leave.
Norris's FreeformNorris had always felt that something was off, that something was missing. They remember hatching in Primary Village with the echoes of screams in their head and a feeling like they had lost something or someone important. It is a feeling that they would carry with them as they grew, moving through their baby forms and into the Dracumon form that felt good, that felt right and familiar. They spent most of their time in and around Primary Village, playing with baby digimon, helping find the ones that wandered off, trying to figure out what it was that missing thing was that still nagged them from time to time.
When humans began arriving in the Digital World, Norris hardly paid them any mind. The only times they interacted with these newcomers to their world was when they stopped by Primary Village itself. When humans did stop by they would watch them from a distance or from hiding, curious but shy. Occasionally they would take little trinkets and baubles from these new visitors if they weren't guarded closely enough, but for the most part they were content to observe these interlopers so long as they didn't do anything to endanger the smaller Digimon.
One day, a short while after humans had first began to appear, they felt something tug at that void inside of them, a calling that they answered eagerly. They followed where it led them, and found a young human, afraid and lost and desperate to find a way home to her family. Something in Norris resonated the moment they laid eyes on Alice, and they began to feel a little less lost themself as they took their place as Alice's guide and companion in the Digital World, hoping that they could both help each other regain what had been lost.
